Band: Ojos De Brujo
Album: Techari
Release Date: Feb 20, 2007
Label: Six Degrees Records

"A band that loads flamenco rhythm and hip-hop and ragga and punk on the same wagon. It's lively, fire-spitting music." — Ben Ratliff, The New York Times

Ojos de Brujo hail from the thriving sonic melting pot of Barcelona and the music reflects their Spanish and gypsy heritage, but travels light years beyond traditional flamenco. They take the flamenco and rumba traditions and kick them on to the modern dancefloor by adding hip-hop, dub and bhangra influences. Barí, their first album to be released in the U.S. in 2004, brought the fully-realized sound of Ojos de Brujo into fruition winning them legions of fans all over the world with infectious anthems such as "Ventilaor R-80," "Tiempo de Soleá" and "Ley de Gravedad."

Their live shows have become the stuff of legend, and they have left a path of sold-out shows and stunned audiences in their wake since the European release last year of their new album, Techari, set for release on February 20th, 2007 in the US. Special guests on the new album include Faada Freddy from Senegalese hip-hop collective Daara J, Asian Dub Foundation's Prithpal Rajput, and Nitin Sawhney. Cuban pianist Roberto Carcassés also makes an appearance alongside respected flamenco guitarist Pepe Habichuela, and Cuban très/flamenco guitar player Raúl Rodríguez from Son de la Frontera.

I will add my review later this evening. This is going to really make my day at work listening to the CD. I have already played "Sultanas De Merkaíllo" like 20 times since yesterday. I just want to dance :)
